When I went through menopause (Yes, I am that old.), I went through temporary insanity. There, I have confessed it.
First of all, I was so young, I could not figure out what was happening to me. Paranoia held me captive. For some reason, I thought everyone was out to get me. I became incredibly self-centered and frustrated and forgot who I was in Christ Jesus. I guess I’ll blame hormones or lack thereof. Stupid excuse, I know. I was smart enough, however, to go to a Christian counselor. That counselor sat me down and gave me Psalm 139. Her instructions: Read it every day.
What better way to jog my memory about who I am?
Following is this precious Psalm. I have included my notes to give you a focused perspective of what God is saying here. Before we can get this marriage thing straight, we need to get this God thing straight. Your husband is not God.
God is actually much more awesome than your husband (sorry guys). He loves you completely and perfectly.
REST in THAT LOVE!
Take a moment — Read this Psalm — Then fall into the loving arms of a great, Godly Father.
And, by the way, if you never had a good earthly father and are wondering what that is like — imagine the warm feeling of being wrapped in gentle arms of acceptance and love…and feeling the peace and security of never being alone. That is the love of God.
SOOOOOO….. Rest and read today. We’ll talk about hubbies and loved ones later.
YOU are never alone!
O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
You hem me in–behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
You can’t run away from God. Good times, bad times… He seeks you out ….because He loves you.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
God helps us with our worries! We may feel we are surrounded by darkness, but God brings LIGHT!
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
God formed you before you were born.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.
God has a special plan for your life!
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
God’s Word…The Bible reveals His precious thoughts!
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.
God’s protection and care are new every morning!
When I awake, I am still with you.
Worldly problems…We hate the actions, not the men. I don’t know about you, but I hate to hear people speak against God! I feel like I am being personally attacked! We can ask God to help us in this tough world.
If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD, and abhor those who rise up against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
This is my prayer request! I need God to help me cope with anxious thoughts and help me “clean” that offensive stuff up!
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
