Pause to Paint: I’m done!

I’m messy. I’m tired. I’m grateful. I’m done.

As I painted my daughter’s room, I started getting depressed. – Why am I covering up my kid’s life? – Just because clouds and glowing stars are scratched and marred, does that mean I have to clean it up?

I sighed. Help me out, God.

“Be grateful.” I heard the words echo in my mind.

OK, my head murmured back as I stirred the Country White.  Let me concentrate on gratitude.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thess 5:16-18

I sloshed Country White onto walls and thanked God I had walls.

I remembered precious times in this room: – Snuggling and reading to a five year-old, checking homework, writing love notes, wiping tears. I stood on the bed and stroked my brush at the ceiling line. Thanks, God, for the sweet memories.

I rollered and brushed til my paint can was empty, but my heart was full. Gosh, God, I really am blessed!

Fast forward five hours:

I just tossed my drop cloth into the trash.

I’m messy, I’m tired. I’m grateful and…I’m done.

Tomorrow  I head to San Diego…Stay tuned !
