Think Small! (Tiny Home Adventure)

Think small.

Nope – I’m not trying to cramp your style.   I’m just reminding you-sometimes little is better than big.

It doesn’t hurt to simplify… in life…in faith.Look at stuff with the wonder and whimsy of a child. As Jesus said in Matthew 18:3:

Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

I’ve moved to a tiny home for a month.

I’ll take you on a tour!

Everything is close. — Not much to clean

My tiny home reminds me to look for close-up blessings

Focus near

God is near

I shouldn’t need a lot to be happy

Hebrews 13: 5-6 says:

“Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things.

Be content with what you have

God has said,

‘I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.’

So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper,

and I will not be afraid.

What can mere people do to me?

All my stuff can be distracting.

I’m thinking the key is not stuff, but contentment, love and quality time.

Gotta have enough time for Jesus.

If shepherding junk is taking me away from gratefully clinging to Jesus…welp… I’d better park myself in a tiny space and have a chat with my Savior.

Less can mean more.

I rent a tiny home for a month so I can be near my grandchild.

I leave my distracting bigger home in order to laser-focus on my little buddy…and my God. I think small in order to collect a little quality time.

You see, when life as I knew it imploded, first by betrayal and then by the winds of a hurricane, I made a decision to collect quality time.

When you lose a lot of stuff, including love, you look for things that can’t be taken away.

Quality time is the best thing to stockpile.

These days, I’m banking on quality time, including simple pleasures and LOVE.

My tiny home is nestled on a hill next to a sleepy river.

Before you think I live in some alternate reality, however, I have to confess my tiny home is at the end of a crowded campground, jam-packed with travel trailers and campers and spring-breakers and ball parks and neon lights.

In my tiny home on the edge of camp, however,

I feel like Laura Ingalls Wilder on the banks of Plum Creek (as long as I don’t look behind me.)

At night things are calm, save the hum of camper electric.

The air wafts with cook-out splendor. I walk in the dark. No one notices me. This is so peaceful.

My time is small, intimate, precious and full of close-up blessings. For a month it’s just me and God and after-school pick up. It’s heaven. It’s simple.

My small space lasts, unfortunately, a small bit of time. Soon I’ll be back in the bigger…but I won’t let go of the small.

Small blessings…small wonder… big God…

I’ll carry these back to my bigger space…

  • and I’ll thank God for the chance to think small.

  1. What a lovely ending to my day.🙏. I walked everywhere with you and shared with your emotions as I pictured the precious time that you were having with your grandson. Being in such a small area provides an intimacy with Jesus. His Spirit surrounds us with love and fills us with peace.

I’m smiling and so peaceful as I crawl under my covers.
Thank you, my dear friend. I love you.
