History Whispers: Don’t Forget God

In a time when there seems to be a lot of shouting, I’m listening to whispers today.

History whispers.

I listen and learn.

If you take time to explore, you find hidden treasures.

Listen to the whisper:

Remember God.

God is central to our country’s history,

heritage and hopeful future.

Dear friends,

Don’t forget God.

Our founding leaders were not perfect.

Neither are we.

But, in moments of clarity and inspiration, I’ve found they ran to God for foundation, meaning and purpose.

Let’s look at the whispers:

John Adam’s, signer of the Declaration of Independence; Judge, Diplomat; one of two signers of the Bill of Rights. Second president of the United States

Abraham Lincoln inaugural address.

James Madison – signer of the constitution, author of the Federalist papers, framer of the Bill of Rights, Fourth President of the United States

George Washington, Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, First President of the United States.

Francis Scott Key, author of the Star Spangled Banner, US Attorney for the District of Columbia

Patrick Henry – Revolutionary General; Legislator know as “The Voice of Liberty”, Ratifier of the US Constitution; Governor of Virginia

American abolitionist and social activist; Leader of the Underground Railroad, armed scout and spy for the Union Army during the Civil War

Kay Cole James – Former Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

On June 26th, 1787 when the nation was still facing a debt crisis from the Revolution and leaders were gathering to write a new Constitution,

Ben Franklin asked to speak to the assembly.

By now, he was an elder statesman known to be the least spiritual of all the founding fathers.

This well-respected man walked to the front of the gathering, stopping at the podium.

How interesting.

Ben Franklin acknowledged the power of prayer and God’s help…especially in times of turmoil.

As Franklin pointed out…let’s not forget God.

History whispers….all the way back to the Bible:
