When in Doubt…Dance!

I learned to tap dance in my first musical. I was 15 years old. I’m not ashamed to say that was 47 years ago. — Yup, I’m old!

I was little Josie Cohan way back then. I had to tap dance in the patriotic musical “George M!”  George M. Cohan was the part of a vaudeville family  who birthed some great songs such as “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “Give My Regards to Broadway.”

-Oh the hours I spent

“fullapping” and

“tap-tapping!”

I was hooked!

Theater was a God Gift which helped an awkward little teen escape the reality of life struggles. On stage I could smile and sparkle and belt out songs. Life was good.

Tap dancing reporter!

Today I wait in the wings to go on to tap in the musical “Anything Goes.”

I have to say, I’m still better at life when I dance and sing.

So…I wait for my cue.  Any minute now.

I’m a tap dancing reporter today. but in 47 years I’ve been many other people…and I often needed to be. When in doubt… I danced.

I need to tap dance today.

It’s reassuring and energizing to share this love with the audience.

Hmmm… by golly….I think God gives us skills to help others.  Dancing and singing may be just the gift needed to help someone through a tough time.

This is a verse which reminds me of my God Gift :

You turned my wailing into dancing…you clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.”  -Psalm 30: 11-12

Here are some views of shows I’ve danced my way through:

Sister Act – The oldest nun taking care of a thug!
Hello Dolly! Dancing with the waiters!
Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

Forty seven years ago, who knew this kid could tap?

God did. I’m grateful God’s given me the chance….to dance.

Nellie Forbush in “South Pacific”

Fanny Bryce in “Funny Girl”
