Canceling my Pity Party

8FDA92D6-B7BE-439B-9B7F-BD7309787D51I’m sad! I don’t think she likes me.
Drat! I am so stupid! I made a mistake.
Poop! I forgot where I put my keys.
Darn! I think I’m gaining weight.
Sigh! He didn’t even notice all the work I did.
Boohoo! That didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to.

Geesh! Keep it down, folks. It’s so noisy at my party and the room is getting crowded. How can anyone think straight? I’m also getting shoved into a corner. It’s hard to get anything done in a corner.

The party started when I woke up, the pity party, that is. As I shuffle to the bathroom mirror and look at this far-from glamorous 61 year-old, my guests shout louder.

“Man, you’re getting old!”
“What are you doing with your life?”

I make my way toward the coffee pot and the Bible.

Wait a minute! I remember that verse!

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 10:5

 “OK, folks! Clear out!”
“Party’s over!”
“Move it. Move it. Move it!”

I sip my coffee and read 2 Corinthians10:3-5.

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”

God says I’m loved with an everlasting love. Fact.

My pity parties block my view and hinder my path.

Get over it and get something DONE, Laurie!

Thanks, God. I’m lassoing all those stupid thoughts (which are based on worldly comparisons, by the way) and getting back to the business of living.

The party’s over. The fun’s just beginning.
